LEADING EDGE
LEADERSHIP EVALUATION TOOL:

Introduction.
The leadership evaluation tool provides a profile of leadership across your business. The initial and primary evaluation is based upon answers provided by the owner manager/ managing director to a set of 34 multiple choice questions. It is possible to supplement the results of this evaluation by using a complementary set of questions to be completed by one or more employees. However, it is advised that this second question set is only used once you have completed and reviewed the primary evaluation

What does it do?
It provides profiles of the leadership approaches used by you, your fellow workers, your organisational structures, your market orientation and your business overall. The profiles take the form of bar charts. Each chart has four bars one for each of the four main approaches to leadership. Descriptions of these four leadership approaches are provided with the assessment profiles.

How use?
Using the four descriptors and the results charts to compare similarities and differences between the profiles you can quickly identify possible conflicts, obstacles and areas for action when developing leadership in your organisation. For example, if your personal profile (Self orientation) favours a traditional approach and the people profile favours a distributed approach then this potential mismatch could highlight a source of leadership conflict or dysfunction that can be tackled.

Nb. The practical value of the results becomes more evident when they are used as starting points for personal understanding and decision making with respect to leadership development. That is, they enable you to ask yourself questions such as: How do I feel about the character of my leadership? Is my approach likely to be helping or hindering the leadership development of people and organisational structures in the business? What approaches do I want to try to develop or diminish in myself and the business?

It is advisable, although not necessary to read the 'Assessment process' page before starting your assessment.
